Landlords Jane & Rob, have re-established the New Inn as a popular venue for customers of all ages. The re-introduction of popular pub games like Aunt Sally and Northamptonshire Skittles have proved to be very popular. A newly established darts team plays every Monday evening and Landlord Rob and a group of energetic locals can also be found to be organising inter-village challenges of tug-of-war or cricket.
The New Inn, Abthorpe, Northamptonshire is a proper village pub, at the centre of community life. And its licensees Jane and Robbie Costall intend to make sure it stays that way.
The couple come from Stoke on Trent and quickly involved themselves in the life of the village - forging links with local people and groups. The importance of the pub to the village life was made clear to them by one local who said, "Life in this village revolves around the church and pub, but the church is only open one day a week you are open seven".
A wide selection of Hook Norton ales are served along-side good home-cooked pub favourites. All are made from locally sourced ingredients, which are cooked each day by landlady Jane, lunch-time and evenings. With the introduction of a senior citizens meal deal of 2 courses for £6.00 being served Tuesday to Saturday lunchtimes 12pm -2pm being very popular.
The pub is listed in CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide and the couple hope that beer lovers will come and try their range of excellent Hook Norton beers.
We have a new early evening offer, 2 main meal dishes for just £10.00. served 5pm – 7pm Tuesday – Friday only.
“We are both real ale fans,” said Robbie Costall, “and we welcome CAMRA members to the New Inn, it is my ambition to ensure that The New Inn continues to be listed in The Good Beer Guide.”
It didn't take Jane and Robbie Costall long to decide that the New Inn was for them, they are keen motorsport and horse racing fans, so the location of Abthorpe, close to Silverstone Circuit and Towcester Racecourse, certainly influenced their decision, but most of all they wanted to run a village pub. The New Inn is a quintessentially English village pub built of local stone complete with an inglenook fireplace.
