About The Gate Inn Brailes
On the edge of the Cotswolds, The Gate Inn is a fine pub built of local stone. Inside, the scene is set by old beams, brass ornaments, a fire blazing in a stone hearth and a serving area decorated with hop bines.
Functions
Outside, picnic tables are set out in the lawned garden. The popular village local is famed for its fish and chips on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings and Wednesday, Thursday and Friday lunchtimes. The cod and haddock are delivered fresh twice a week from Grimsby. Licensee Peter Wixey is proud of the fact that most of their food is made with locally bought ingredients, including beef from his brother's small holding, and many of the vegetables served are organically grown.
"We only use the best ingredients because only then can you guarantee putting something good on people's plates," he said.
In the Summer Mr Wixey erects some marquees in the garden for use for wedding receptions and other events.
The pub is a regular stopping point for many walkers enjoying the countryside, and is the base for many ramblers attempting the five-mile Brailes Three Hills walk on May Day.
