Andy and Sharon Pearce are the hard-working tenants of the Great Western Arms. The young couple have fallen in love with this pretty Cotswold village pub in the idyllic village of Blockley. Three miles from Moreton in Marsh, Blockley is a near perfect Cotswold village, and a great place to wile away several hours before relaxing over lunch or dinner at the Great Western Arms.
Pub dining
The food is gloriously old English - Steak and Hooky Bitter pies, Sausages, Faggots. "The menu changes every day, it is going to be very seasonal, but all the food will be properly prepared and home cooked, with the meat coming from a local butcher," says Sharon. In the evening the intimate atmosphere of the pub is enhanced by soft lighting, giving the bars a mellow feel as soft as the hue of the yellow stone from which the pub is built..
Walkers welcome
Walkers are welcome to leave vehicles in the pub's car park, and if they phone beforehand they can arrange for a meal to be ready for them when they return from their ramblings through some stunning nearby countryside. Pub games are a major feature - there are crib and darts teams, there are also quiz nights.
In the springtime and summer hanging baskets provide a stunning floral welcome to the pub and on a sunny day there cannot be many better places to relax than in the pub’s sun-trapping terrace. Dogs are welcome in the beer garden and bar area. You can expect a very warm welcome here, whether you are in for a quiet drink on your own or with a big party!
